/M.N.D. "Westberliner Stadtmusik 1969 I-IV" CD $14.99 "Norbert Eisbrenner git. vi. voc., Werner Goetz Bratsche k-Bass, Sven Eke Johansson dr. Stimme. An amazing discovery from the West Berlin scene, 1969. Moderne Nordeuropaische Dorfmusik was a free-improvisational trio consisting of Norbert Eisbrenner, Werner Goetz, and Sven-Eke Johansson. While Johansson is perhaps best known as the percussive madman behind some of FMP's wildest sides, including the legendary Peter Brotzmann 'Machine Gun' octet, he was also a friend and contemporary of Conrad Schnitzler, Klaus Schulze, and Edgar Froese, the trio forming the core of 'Electronic Meditation'-era Tangerine Dream. In otherwords, the blotter was passed around pretty freely in those days, and the influence of English interstellar travelers like Pink Floyd and Soft Machine was reaching beyond the avant-classicists (Can, MEV, Kluster) and proto-Krautrockers (Amon D||l, Ash Ra Tempel, Guru Guru) and touching the European disciples of Coltrane and Ayler. An ever-shifting maelstrom of soundtempered by tense but delicate arpeggios, propulsive rolls, whoops and hollers, 'Westberliner Stadtmusik' revels not only in its sound, but in space. No one else began to approach the psychedelic scorch laid down by this trio at the time (with the notable exception of Japan's Masayuki Takayanagi's New Direction Unit). This recording prefigures Anima by a good year or so, even foreshadows aspects of the Incus sound we've come to love. The nearest antecedents might have been Wolfgang Dauner's 'Free Action' (1967) and Brotzmann's evil-genius 'Machine Gun' (1968), but even those could scarcely prepare us for the 77-minutes of action contained herein." - label description. TIETCHENS, ASMUS: Eisgang/Ddmmerattacke 2CD (SUBMERGENCE). "Eisgang & Ddmmerattacke were originally released as 2 seperate limited edition LPs on Korm Plastics' 'Ambient Series' in 1995 and 1997, respectively. However, those familiar with Tietchens will realize that this is not your everyday ambient music! Roughly, the title Eisgang translates to 'Ice Flows', and Ddmmerattacke means 'Spontaneous Twilight State'. Both albums contain long, slow moving icy yet dark structures. This reissue contains 20 minutes of previously unreleased material from the same period." 20.99 VA: Watch How The People Dancing CD (HONEST JON'S). "This album showcases the reggae music made by Unity Hi-Power, a leading London sound system of the 1980s. It is presented as the next-generation companion to Honest Jons' recent compilation of Trinidadian calypsos, London Is The Place For Me. The mood is more defiant -- a Jamaican secession from London -- with themes of inner-city sufferation running alongside hymns to the dancehall and the herb superb. For the music, only a tiny handful of reggae labels outside Jamaica have sustained such exhilarating originality. Nothing in English reggae comes close. Watch How The People Dancing celebrates a watershed in the transition from classical reggae to ragga which is magnificently unique to London, a music deep inside its own traditions but nodding to US hiphop and house, and pointing to the new English breakbeat." Features tracks from: Selah Collins, Mikey Murka, Errol Bellot, Kenny Knots, Richie Davis, Peter Bouncer, Jack Wilson & Demon Rockers. 19.99 BROTZMANN/BENNINK/VAN HOVE "Balls (1970)" (Atavistic) CD A superb reissue of the long-out-of-print classic from the power trio of PETER BROTZMANN, HAN BENNINK and FRED VAN HOVE. Features all four tracks from the original 1970 FMP release, along with two previously unreleased bonus tracks recorded during the same period. 13.99 Sacher-Pelz "mutation for a continuity" 4 x CD box $36.99 "Very few are aware of the beginning of Maurizio Bianchi.s adventures. Before starting the complex and compelling production of many records and tapes in the early eighties under the M.B. trademark, Maurizio Bianchi was documenting the new music scene writing essays and reviews for independent magazines. It was August 1979 in Milan, Italy and his soul was strengthening when he felt the time had come to prove his desire for something new. So he started his first solo project, under the name Sacher-pelz. He assembled a concrete equipment. the endurance of M.B. had started. During the following few months four C60 magnetic tapes were created 'Cainus' (August / September 1979), 'Venus' (October / November 1979), 'Cease to Exist' (December 1979 / January 1980) and 'Velours' (February / March 1980), a couple of copies for friends, never getting an official distribution. Surely a very private moment but still the first and only production at that time in Italy to go beyond the TG movement, the direct reference. As Maurizio Bianchi wrote in those days: 'The abysses devour the sun. An environmental physiology taking its roots in the invisible and feverish eclipse of this non-composer who, with his de-codified psychologism, is fervently commited in the propulsion of the new and unheard-of, coherent and powerful dimensions. The repudiation of the musical-communicative dimension is proved here. A free choice, deliberation, determination, in connection to the unspoke, especially in relation to the most strict techno-industrial discipline. To evoke/show and to choose/emit.' Ees.T records got into possesion of the original masters and decided this was the right moment to let those obscure sonorities see the night light. The tapes were remastered for a more powerful digital sound featured in this four CD boxset including the original graphics and liner notes as well as a new visionary essay, written expressly for this edition. After a long research in the archives spread around the Italian territories a few more documents were found (the original presentation text titled 'Sacher-pelz: mutation for a continuity', a collage titled 'Pure art for crime people', more graphics and reviews) and they are also included here. Edition of 480 copies." - label press release. Marquis Recs./Sacher-pelz Outputs (Italy) MART001/4 TOKYO KID BROTHERS: 6CD (P-vine). The Tokyo Kid Brothers was a Japanese theatre commune founded around 1969. They created a unique combination of theatre, dance and music, for 30+ years. Documentation in the CD era has been slim, until now, with this massive 6CD box (that realistically, probably won't be around for very long). The box breaks up their material by originating label, so we can at least inform you of the following (thanks to Alan Cummings for the details): CD1: Polydor material -- the last 12 tracks on this are the original Golden Bat album, released in 1971. The first 14 are from much later, from a play called The Lost Color Blue. CD2: King label material. First 10 tracks are from One and the Same Door. Next 2 are from the Golden Bat Returns. The rest of this seems to be unreleased early 70s material. CD3: Warner Pioneer label; this is mostly an unreissued 1975 album called October is the Golden Country. CD4: Victor label stuff from the 77 revival of Golden Bat, as well as some of the Throw Down Your Books material -- only the tracks which involved Tokyo Kid. CD5: Toshiba EMI material. CD6: Indepdendent material including that self-released Love & Banana EP and a mixture of other unreleased stuff, origin unknown. P-Vine's press info follows: "6 CD set, with the 100 pages booklets containing their biographical information, posters and leaflets for each musical work, the photos of the stages, actors profiles etc. Most of their songs were composed by Kei Ogura. Along with his works, the songs by Itsurou Shimoda, Ryou Kanou, Takayuki Inoue, Hiroshi Kamayatsu, Katsuo Ono, Yoshihru Matsuzaki, Ryudou Uzaki, Masumi Ono, Yoshikazu Fukano are recorded. Also the read lines by Kyohei Shibata, Koichi Miura and Naoko Tsubota are featured. The rare recordings by Haruomi Hosono, Takashi Matsumoto, Hiro Yanagida, and Chu Kosaka are included. Limited edition of 700 copies." This is a substantial package, but pretty much all of the information is in Japanese-only. For fanatics only. 160.00 AGITATION FREE: Malesch CD (GARDEN OF DELIGHTS). "Their debut, pensive and relaxed. A masterpiece, originally released on Vertigo. The 32-page booklet abounds with photographs, discographies and details. From the masters." New definitive reissue, this album has previously been reissued on Spalax; originally issued in 1972. "Not willing to compromise, and heavily into the avant-garde (many members studied with the influential Thomas Kessler) it took a long while until Agitation Free got an album out. By that time they had developed a cosmic styled rock with a strong ethnic element. Although in the spirit of Ash Ra Tempel and Pink Floyd, they had their own individual identity, with a largely improvised music that was predominantly instrumental, featuring lots of electronics, keyboards and dual guitars, and a great flair for invention. Malesch documents their trip to North Africa and the Middle East, blending location recordings together with their own compositions and improvisations, and is still quite a unique experience even today, combining cosmic, avant-garde and ethnic musics with great invention." -- The Crack in the Cosmic Egg. 16.99 AGITATION FREE: 2nd CD (GARDEN OF DELIGHTS). "The band's masterpiece and probably even better than Malesch. Originally released on Vertigo's swirled label. As usual with a 32-page coloured booklet." Previously reissued on the Spalax label. "Adds bouzouki, mellotron, 12-string guitar to their classic twin guitar, heavy Krautrock sound. Recorded and released in 1973, few months after the first and incredible Malesch, Second is at the frontiers of experimental, progressive, jazz. If Malesch was experimental recording with a touch of progressive, Second just appears as a progressive recording with experimental touch, revealing the incredible music of the band in an 'easier,' HIGHER way." 16.99 CONRAD WITH FAUST, TONY: Outside The Dream Syndicate 2CD (TABLE OF THE ELEMENTS). "This 30th anniversary reissue features a second disk of originally unreleased music from the sessions and restores Outside the Dream Syndicate to its rightful place in history: as the vital link between early minimalism and the rock avant-garde and a gripping testament to the power and beauty of the Drone. Two CDs in deluxe, limited-edition packaging with a 32-page book and poster. Includes previously unreleased material from the original 1972 sessions.Digitally remastered. " 28.99 LUCIER, ALVIN: Vespers CD (NEW WORLD). "Vespers (1969) acoustic orientation by means of echolocation, for players with hand-held echolocation devices. Chambers (1968) moving large and small resonant environments [new version recorded 2002]. North American Time Capsule (1967) for voices and vocoder. (Middletown) Memory Space [new version of (Hartford) Memory Space recorded 2001] (1970) for any number of instrumental players with recordings of environmental sounds. Elegy for Albert Anastasia (1961-63) electromagnetic tape, very low sounds mostly below human audibility. Liner notes by Bob Ashley." 14.99 ASHLEY & PAUL DE MARINIS, ROBERT: In Sara, Mencken, Christ And Beethoven There Were Men And Women CD (LOVELY). New definitive CD reissue of this original Cramps label album from 1974, an early classic from Robert Ashley (previous CD version on Cramps is now deleted). This deluxe slipcased version features an 110 page book, reproducing the original Wolgamot text along with fascinating liner notes explaining the whole project from Keith Waldrop and Robert Ashley. The CD features one long composition with Ashley reading a text by poet John Barton Wolgamot. The poem has128 stanzas; each stanza is made up of the same phrase, into which are introduced four variables, three are names or groups of names or constructions of names, and the fourth variable is formed by the adverb of the active verb. The result is considered "one of the most unusual and difficult linguistic textures in the English language". The underlying music is supplied by Paul DeMarinas on Moog synthesizer. Ashley on De Marinas: "{Paul} has elaborated seven different modular combinations, each of which can be controlled by programmed impulses. These derive from the sound of the reading of the poem passed through the regeneration high frequency filter and successively translated into a series of command impulses." 25.99 FAUST: Patchwork 1971-2002 CD (STAUBGOLD). "'Yes. Faust will forever be heralded as a pioneer in the electronic/rock avant garde, emerging in the early seventies branching off from Brit/American commercial rock bands, employing the use of alterior sonic landscapes to create a new musical tangent.' (Alternative Press). For this very special release Staubgold label manager Markus Detmer and Faust member Hans Joachim Irmler compiled unreleased Faust recordings from 1971 to 2002, covering the legendary W|mme Years (1971 - 1973) and the time at Virgin's Manor studios (1974- 1975) as well as their new start in the early 80s and recent years. Compiled as a collage, as the title suggests, Patchwork unfolds the core qualities of Faust and gives a deep impression of their working method." 13.99/LP 11.99 CHOPIN, HENRI: Audiopoems, 1956-1980 CD (?). A collection of 8 Audiopoems, from the years 1956 through 1980. No overlap with the Alga Marghen or Nepless label material. "Early recordings from arguably the soundpoem king (Heidsieck & Chopin have been duke-ing it out over this title for years) presented as two LP-side length 'ultimixes' containing 'Rouge' (1956), 'Dynamisme Intigral' (1973), 'French Lesson' (1974), 'Double Exentension' (1970, with electronic composition by Sten Hanson), 'Hoppa Block' (1970), 'Pjche de Nuit' (1957), 'Tjte ` Tjte' (1971-73, again with Hanson), and 'L'Agrippe des Droits' (1980, for Christian Clozier). Lip smacking, projection-affiliated feedback(s)), perfect stereo channel isolations of separate program content, lunatic ranting, endless repetition of single words, all in store. Chopin has played the proverbial thorn in the side of the art world proper for almost 50 years now (see "Cantata for Two Farts and Juan Carlos I"), extremely glad to have these seminal works available on CD finally. Killer, really." --Hrvatski. 20.99 AMM: Tunes Without Measure Or End CD (MATCHLESS). "Rowe/Tilbury/Privost. Recorded in Glasgow, Scotland May 2000, at the free radiCCAls festival, curated by Evan Parker. First AMM CD since 1996 recording. One continuous 58-minute piece." 16.99 PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE "Ach to Statu Hanobeni" (Globus) CD On February 21, 1976, members of the Czechloslovakia's nascent "underground" held The Second Festival of the Second Culture in the town of Bojanovica. This concert was the turning point for the PPOTU, and in many ways for Czech history. Subsequent to the festival, all members of the band were imprisoned, and their instruments, as well as those of many other underground bands were siezed. The ensuing trial and subsequent public outrage became the catalyst for the writing of Charter 77, the human rights document which was the blueprint for the Velvet Revolution. The first eight tracks were recorded at this infamous concert, the remaining three were recorded the following year at a concert at VACLAV HAVEL's country house. 12.99 L'INFONIE: Volume 333 2CD (MUCHO GUSTO). "Volume 333 is the third album by the Montreal collective L'Infonie, and it is considered by many to be their masterpiece. Released in 1972, this surprising, hard to categorize album is a mix of experimental groove, psychedelic jazz-rock and.... classical music, that will appeal to Zappa fans, but also to chamber music audiophiles." 24.99 WINDY & CARL: Introspection 3CD (BLUE FLEA). "A long-awaited collection of singles, compilation tracks, live + unreleased recordings from 1993-2000. Many of these songs were only available as limited edition 45's + hard to find compilations. Also includes an entire disc of unreleased recordings, including radio broadcasts + alternate versions of songs from Drawing Of Sound." 20.99 AT THE GATES Slaughter Of The Soul (Earache) cd 15.98 From '95, one of the last great Earache releases was Swedish death metallers At The Gates' debut for the label -- definitely ATG's best, but sadly also to be their last, album. "Slaughter The Soul" stands next to Dissection's "Storm Of The Light's Bane" as the apex of the New Wave of Swedish Melodic Death Metal sound. The Iron Maiden-inspired guitar work, the black metal styled throat shredding vocals, and the "Reign In Blood" era Slayer -worthy speed and brutality of this attack showed just how extreme AND melodic metal could get. Acts like In Flames, Shadows Fall, Soilwork, and countless others wouldn't be what they are without ATG. Truly a '90s metal classic, and like "RIB" without an ounce of fat, clocking in at 34 action packed minutes. Not only part of the currently on-going Earache vinyl reissue program, but also now re-released on cd with bonus tracks as well ('cause of course there's room for 'em): one unreleased song called "The Dying" from the "SOTS" sessions, 2 demo tracks, and covers of Slaughterlord, No Security, and of course, Slayer!ORA: Isle LP (THREE POPLARS). "Rerelease of a rare cassette by Andrew Chalk & Darren Tate. 300 numbered copies. Handmade covers." 45.00
MIRROR: Nights LP (THREE POPLARS). "Rerelease of their very rare CDR with extra material. 300 numbered copies. Handmade covers." 45.00
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE Magical Powers From Mars Volume One (Important) cd ep 10.98 I know it seems like we must be joking, but it's true. ANOTHER Acid Mothers Temple record. And not just a new record, PART ONE IN A THREE PART SERIES!!!! But then it wouldn't really be a list without some new sonic missive from these guys on the far away fringes of outer spacerock. But let's start with the packaging. We were all practically stunned into silence by the packaging. Seriously. It is so beautiful. The cover is like one of those vintage 3D sort of multi-layered lenticular postcard, showing a tiny spaceman standing at the edge of a canyon, while a flying saucer swoops down and shines lasers or beams of light and a gorgeous red sunset shimmers in the background. You really have to just see it. And the disc is a 3" cd embedded in a clear 5" cd with some very Yes-like spacescapes. Really nice. Volume two is going to have a lot to live up to. As we seem to be telling you everytime we review ANOTHER Acid Mothers Temple record, although you think that the quality would slip, or this would all get boring and BAD, 'Magical Powers' beats the odds again, and is actually really, really nice. A 20 minute slab of space-y shimmer, buzzing synths and plucked sitars are bombarded by bleeps and blips, reverb and delay, and ghostly female vocals. A futuristic raga, undulating and slowly shifting, a faraway Eastern melody winding subtly through the druggy haze. Blissed out and hypnotic. RADIGUE, ELIANE Geelriandre - Arthesis (Fringes) cd 16.98 Off the top of my head, I can think of the Monks, Glenn Branca, and Eliane Radigue as some of the musicians who've admitted that their unwitting discovering of feedback profoundly altered their ways of thinking about music. Similar to Eddie Shaw's epiphany about feedback in his biography about the Monks, Radigue's revelation about feedback might warrant religious proportions, given that her meditative compositions led her to become a disciple of Buddhism. It was in the mid-60s, when Radigue was a protege of musique concrete legend Pierre Henry, that Radigue first stumbled across electronic feedback in the studios of INA-GRM. Unfortunately, Henry (with his unwavering insistance on the Modernist superiority of musique concrete) did not share Radigue's enthusiasm and Radigue parted ways to build her own studio that centered around the technologies of the Moog and the Arp synthesizers. Composed in 1972 and 1973 respectively (though these recordings were made several years later), "Geelriandre" and "Arthesis" represent some of the earliest work of Radigue's maturation as a minimalist. While neither of these pieces appear to use feedback, Radigue's subtle shifting drones within these pieces mirrors the fluttering complexity that a feedback loop (when carefully controlled) can achieve. "Geerlriandre" for prepared piano and Arp synthesizer ripples with a melancholia through a beautiful chorus of tightly oscillating electric drones occasionally punctuated by the sustained yet muffled resonance of the piano. "Arthesis," using the Moog, is a more ominous affair, whirling back and forth between low end frequencies amidst a glacial progression of bleak ambience. This album isn't only good for historical documentation, but also is an exceptional precursor to the dronological pursuits of current artists like Jonathan Coleclough, Thomas Koner, and Andrew Chalk. Highly recommended. OMIT Rejector (SySecular) cd-r 9.98 Through his DeepSkin imprint, the hermetic New Zealander Clinton Williams has released dozens of cassettes as Omit, housed in his obtuse artwork of bizzare post-Dali monsterisms and awkward geometric shapes. Due to the absence of Williams' artwork on this CD-R production of "Rejector," SySecular doesn't apppear to be the CD-R extention of the Deep Skin cassette catalogue. As Omit's work for haunted synth / loop constructions are incredibly well-executed and sublimely creepy, it's a shame that "Rejector" has only received CD-R status; regardless it's a more accessible format than the nearly-obsolete cassette. Omit's work has clear predecessors in '70s Kraut synthesists like Conrad Schnitzler, Kluster, and early Tangerine Dream; yet his apparently sinister intentions and sci-fi isolationism push his productions closer to the sounds of mid '80s Nurse With Wound (i.e. "Homotopy To Marie") and Zoviet France (i.e. "Mohnomische"). His work uses some amazingly simple techniques of counterpointed tape loops (crackling wood, creaking doors, down-pitched tape splice clicks, etc.) that warble in and out of phase with each other, while dark synth drones swell in and out of the mix to form slowly developed two or three note melodies. As with all of the Omit recordings, "Rejector" comes highly recommended! Super limited too, so don't dawdle. OMIT Rejector (Anomalous) cd 12.98 Over the past ten years or so, Omit (aka the hermetic New Zealander Clinton Williams) has released dozens of cassettes through his DeepSkin imprint. Fortunately, he's allowed a few of his albums to be released as actual CDs, including a couple of really fantastic albums on Corpus Hermeticum. "Rejector" is another album from Omit that's been released as CD. "Rejector" is in its second pressing thanks to Anomalous Records, who salvaged the album from SySecular who originally released the album as a CD-R. As Omit's work for haunted synth / loop constructions are incredibly well-executed and sublimely creepy, it's a very good thing that "Rejector" has moved beyond CD-R status and is available again. HAFLER TRIO, THE: Whistling About Chickens 2CD (FIRE INC). "Since their inception in the mid 80s, Andrew McKenzie, Chris Watson and Edward Moolenbeek have been responsible some of the finest music around. Although music might not be the term they would refer too, they rather see it as sound research, their word spread throughout many releases up to a few years ago. Moolenbeek died and Watson left the group to pursue his own work of field recordings, The Hafler Trio is since a decade or so, Andrew McKenzie with several people that work on new releases on a project base. Releasewise things became quiet following the mid 90s obscure vinyl releases. Andrew moved from Iceland to Denmark because he 'was also disgusted with the move into subsidised existence by people I thought intelligent to understand that this means almost certain spiritual death. my mistake.' In Denmark he worked on commercial webdesign and programmer. Recentely he became seriously ill and moved back to Iceland. Whistling About Chickens was announced by Fire INC. nearly seven years ago and has undergone several reworkings before it now finally materializes as a double CD. In the usual cryptic manner, the theme of this CD (or in fact a whole series of interconnected and interlocking 'themes' is like multi-nested russian dolls. But as before The Hafler Trio deals with the same concerns, somtimes more obscure and sometimes clearer, depending on the approach for each situation. the essence is precisely the same. Perhaps it glows a little brighter..." 18.99 ARBETE & FRITID: Arbete & Fritid CD (MNW). First reissue of this legendary Swedish band from the early 70s; this was their third album (first for MNW, prev. 2 were for Sonet), originally issued in 1973. Arbete & Fritid were very much in the Silence-label underground style, comparable to Trdd Grds och Stenar (with whom they shared some bandmembers). Nice looking reissue (with a rare bonus track), only downside is that the considerable liner notes are in Swedish only! "Arbete & Fritid was formed in 1969 and was for ten years an ever-changing band that explored all types of musical directions but with a solid folk music base. The band frequently changed members with cellist and composer Ove Karlsson being the exception. The musicians teaming up in Arbete & Fritid all had a experimental jazz background but were also inspired by avant-garde minimalist composers such as John Cage, Terry Riley and LaMonte Young. But it was the newly awaken interest in Nordic folk music traditions that got the band started in 1969 and it was the bands unique blend of folk music, jazz, rock and avant-garde experiments that made them one of the truly unique bands in the early 70's, long before anyone heard of world music. Arbete & Fritid was one of the most appreciated live acts during the 70's, maybe because you never knew what the concerts were going to be like. It could start off as a rock concert, as a meditative Indian concert, as a vital folk music gig or as an avant-garde jazz night -- and before it was all ended you could be sure to have all your preconceptions turned around. These concerts would many times also include some half-crazy vocal tracks, in dadaist tradition. Arbete & Fritid have inspired many other artists to experiment with Nordic folk music and with the nearly 1000 concerts they played they opened a lot of people's minds for music without boundaries. Many of the lengthy jams that made up their gigs were never transformed into records. This album was recorded in Vaxholm in 1973. This CD reissue includes a bonustrack 'Ostpusten-Vdstpusten', that was recorded by the Swedish National Radio in 1972." 14.99 L'INFONIE: Volume 333 2CD (MUCHO GUSTO). "Volume 333 is the third album by the Montreal collective L'Infonie, and it is considered by many to be their masterpiece. Released in 1972, this surprising, hard to categorize album is a mix of experimental groove, psychedelic jazz-rock and.... classical music, that will appeal to Zappa fans, but also to chamber music audiophiles. An extraordinary listening adventure and a monument of undeground Kibicois rock! Formed in Montreal in 1967, L'Infonie existed officially until 1974. Seven years of pure mayem that gave birth to four vinyls (Volume 3, Volume 33, Volume 333and Volume 3333) as well as various multidisciplinary shows built as way-out happenings with costumes etc...Stunningly remastered two-disc re-release of their classic third album from 1972, Montreal's L'Infonie proves that they were at the forefront of musique concrete and easily above all others that have tried to harness this form of controlled chaos. With their daring and unconventional use of electronics, basses, horns and guitars, a bizarre animated religious storybook fantasy world of madness is created, one where there is no particular story, just an open-ended and humorous comedic soundscape... Volume 333 is experimental decadence at its finest." 20.99 TETSU INOUE & ANDREW DEUTSCH "Field Tracker" (Anomalous - NOM 9) CD $ 9.85 ***A collaborative work between Tokyo ambient composer TETSU INOUE and sound/video artist and Alfred University (Alfred, New York) Sound Art teacher ANDREW DEUTSCH (who also is a member of the board of directors of the Pauline Oliveros Foundation). Inoue, utilizing his digital sound processing systems in combination with bells, guitar and other odd sound making objects, constructed tiny improvisational sound moments, which were later taken by Deutsch and combined with synthesized sounds, drones, chatter, loops, and more. Recorded at the Institute for Electronic Art in Alfred, New York in the winter of 2000. ANDREW CHALK "Over The Edges" (Streamline) CD A CD reissue of the 1999 Over The Edges LP originally released in an edition of 545 copies by English sound artist ANDREW CHALK-who's worked with Ferial Confine, Organum, Vortex Campaign, New Blockaders, Ora, Christoph Heemann, and many others. A hypnotic blend of drifting drones performed with an e-bow on a two-string acoustic guitar 12.99 MIRROR "Eye of the Storm" (Streamline) CD A CD reissue of the second MIRROR album produced in 1999 by British sound explorer ANDREW CHALK and former H.N.A.S. member CHRISTOPH HEEMAN. Originally released by Streamline in a limited edition that sold out the day of its release. 12.99 ESG Come Away With ESG (Soul Jazz) cd 21.00 With a brand new record released earlier this year and their first ever live show here in SF, it's for sure been nonstop ESG fever here at AQ. We could probably write the longest most glowing review ever of that live show but suffice to say it was a mind blowing experience which we aren't soon going to forget. When ESG were on tour last year in Japan they realized that people were spending hundreds of dollars to get their hands on their rare second album called Come Away With ESG, so they asked Soul Jazz to reissue it and now here it is, all gussied up and at a nice price. Originally released in 1983 on 99 Records, the great NY underground label that also put out records by folks like Glen Branca, Bush Tetras, Liquid Liquid, etc. While the bulk of these songs can be found on the great A South Bronx Story collection it's still so thrilling and a little mind blowing to understand how an entire album can actually sound like the best greatest hits album you've ever heard. Pretty much hands down the best dance music made in this quarter century. ESG have been sampled on countless hip-hop records, helping to inspire an entire generation of forward minded dance/punk/dub/funk artists, and have thus continued to keep their vision alive and well. For those who already have A South Bronx story there are a few absolute gems on here not included on that collection. And for those who don't have any ESG yet in their collection, get this right away!!! MPEG Stream: "You Make No Sense" MPEG Stream: "The Beat" Tue Jan 2 01:42:54 UTC 2007
